This past week I planted 2 blueberry bushes in my backyard …. along with a red raspberry vine, thyme, sage, and mint. I planted these things not for culinary use but for use in floral arrangements. Because I could not wait to get my hands on them, I snipped off a few pieces for use in boutonnieres.
It was a good experiment as I discovered the raspberry leaves, mint leaves, and lavender scabiosa were a little fragile for use in boutonnieres. The blueberries, thyme, and sage, however, turned out to be good, sturdy materials for a boutonniere.
The white lisianthus and variegated vine (not sure of the name) also held up a long time without a water source.
Just for kicks, I made a boutonniere with some purple magnolia buds and flowers, which held up quite nicely as well.
